The Levelland community turned out in force for the grand opening of the Levelland Oxy Sports Complex. The new 5.6 Million Dollar facility opened today with several representatives from the community as well as several representatives of the local Occidental Petroleum Office as well as Vicki Hollub the Executive Vice President and President of Oxy Oil & Gas Americas was on hand for the event.
Representatives of the Levelland City Council, Levelland Community Development Corporation, Parkhill, Smith and Cooper and Lee Lewis Construction were also introduced.
A signed proclamation from Mayor Waymon Jackson, proclaiming, April 11, 2015 as Occidental Appreciation Day in Levelland was also presented to Occidental Petroleum Corporation representatives.
Following the ceremonies, a celebratory first pitch was thrown out by Vicki Hollub of Oxy and former Levelland Mayor RL “Bo” Bowman.
In 2010 voters in Levelland approved a Type B economic development sales tax to build a multi-purpose sports complex that would accommodate baseball, softball,, and soccer. Parkhill, Smith and Cooper designed the complex while Lee Lewis Construction served as the Construction Manager. The $5.6 Million facility will accommodate any age softball, up to 12 year old baseball, and any age soccer. The turn for the soccer fields will be grown in the summer with the soccer fields being ready for game play for the upcoming soccer season in the fall of 2015.
