KLVT News was on the scene just moments after a plane crashed approximately 1 mile South of Levelland on Highway 385. The crash occurred at approximately 3:15pm just south of the Levelland Airport property.
Details are very limited at this time. The plane was what appeared to be a crop duster plane. Fire crews were called to the scene as a precaution due to the amount of jet fuel involved however no fire was reported as a result of the crash. The plane suffered heavy damage in the crash, however, fortunately the pilot was able to crawl out of the wreckage on his own. The identity of the pilot has not been released as of yet.
Traffic was detoured on Hwy 385 for the investigation which will be lengthy and will likely involve the FAA and NTSB. Southbound traffic on Highway 385 is being detoured west bound onto Equilizer road and North bound traffic coming in from Brownfield is being detoured East bound onto Caribou Road. Heavy trucks are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
