The council took action to amend the budget for 2013-2014 to cover some items that were purchased but not in the budget. The amendments were for items already approved by the council in previous meetings.
The council took action to approve an inter local agreement with the Texas Municipal League Multistate Intergovernmental Employee Benefit Pool. It is the same agreement as the past, however, the name of the benefit pool changed to TML Multistate Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool. This is due to the fact that the Texas Municipal League recently started insuring public employees in the State of Oklahoma which will help keep insurance costs down with more people covered.
The council also approved a new agreement to recognize the name change on COBRA coverage for employees who leave.
The council also approved the Quarterly Investment Report as presented by the city’s finance director.
The council also approved naming the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Community Development to serve as the Civil Rights Officer in conjunction with the Texas Capital Fund Grant.
The council also approved the annual agreement with the Levelland Chamber of Commerce. This agreement is the same as it has been for 10 years. The Mayor asked how much was being paid from the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund. It was pointed out that the Chamber Director, Mary Siders has inquired with legal counsel in Austin about paying the general cost of chamber operations out of the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund, however, they have stated that it does not meet the definition. The Main Street program also cannot be funded out of the Hotel Occupancy Tax funds. Over $80,700 has been alloted from the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund for activities that have been approved by the council in previous meetings. $20,000 has also been approved out of this fund to help draw future events to Levelland.
The council tabled action on the Joint Election Administrator with Hockley County as the city Attorney has not approved the contract.
