Community of Post Devastated–Post Elementary School Continues to Burn

The community of Post is devastated today as the Post Elementary School caught fire early Sunday morning. Fire Crews for Post, Tahoka, West Carlisle, Slaton and O’Donnell have been on the scene fighting the blaze since 7am this morning.

The Post Emergency Management Coordinator said that at least 15 classrooms in the third, forth and fifth grade area is affected by the blaze. He noted that the first priority for fire fighters has been to separate the building from other buildings with bulldozers and other equipment. The cause of the fire or amount of damage is not know at this time. According to firefighters on the scene they expect to be fighting the blaze throughout the evening.

All classes for Post ISD have been cancelled for Monday, September 22 according to a statement on the school website. ALL Faculty and Staff will have a mandatory meeting at 1pm Monday at the arena.
