KLVT News has obtained a copy of a letter dated May 23, 2013 through an open records request with the City of Littlefield this morning. The letter was addressed to The Honorable John Morton, Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and was signed by 19th Congressional District Representative Randy Neugebauer.
The letter is shown below and states “I am writing you today to encourage the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to support the proposal to utilize the Littlefield Detention Center for detention of illegal immigrants. I believe this facility and the Littlefield community can help ICE deal with the detainees for whom it needs to find suitable space.”
This statement is in direct contradiction to a statement issued by Neugebauer to KLVT News this week which stated “It is not now and has never been my goal to house illegal immigrants in Littlefield, Texas or anywhere else in the United States. My goal has always been and will continue to be securing the border. Those that have made the journey and illegally entered the United States should be sent home immediately. President Obama’s attention and our resources should be focused on securing the border, enforcing the law, and quickly putting an end to this crisis.”
KLVT has invited Neugebauer to be our guest on Good Morning Texas, however we have not heard back from his office.
