A 15 year old Nacadoches girl who disappeared Monday has been found safe in Lubbock and the suspect arrested.
An amber alert covering several States was issued Wednesday afternoon for 15 year old Nomei Velazquez of Nacadoches. She was last seen at school Monday. She was reported as missing when she did not return home from school on Monday evening according to a news release from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s office. Investigators there found no indication she was planning a trip and nothing was missing from her bedroom. During the initial investigation authorities believed Velazquez could have been with Juan Fabian Delacruz, who lived in Center and worked in Louisiana. Authorities said that the teen had befriended her family for a short time last year. Delacruz reportedly had a misunderstanding with the family in December and contact between them stopped. Investigators received information that Velazquez had told friends she was afraid of Delacruz, who is repored to be a former police officer in Mexico.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s office pinged the girls cell phone on Tuesday night and it showed to be in a location in Lubbock, within 2 miles of 19th and University. They immediately notified the Lubbock County Sheriff’s office and the missing person alert was issued to media in the region yesterday morning prior to the full Amber Alert yesterday afternoon.
Following the Amber Alert, an off duty Lubbock police officer found the suspects vehicle, a 2004 Volkswagon in the parking lot on the Texas Tech Campus near 19th and Indiana. He then parked his personal vehicle and wathed the Volkswagon until other Lubbock police officers could get on scene and sit up a perimiter, where no one could come or go without police knowing it. Juan Fabian Delacruz, 28 was taken into custody at the site. Velazquez was safe.
