A Hockley county man is now in the Hockley County Jail facing charges after an overnight standoff with Lubbock SWAT team officers and officers from multiple agencies outside his Hockley County home near Filly road and Owl Road.
The Hockley County Sheriff’s office received a call at just before 11pm Friday night from a crew working at an oil rig in the area. Two Hockley County Sheriff’s Deputies was the initial officers to respond, another officer from Anton also responded. They surrounded the trailer and at around midnight the decision was made to call the Lubbock SWAT team to the scene, a DPS helicopter was also called to circle the area and EMS was placed on standby.
The darkness and uncertain conditions created a difficult situation for law enforcement, who initially could not find any information about the occupants inside. The officers remained in position until around 2am, when the subject, identified as, Renary Rodriquez came out of the trailer and acted as though he was about to surrender. Reports indicate he came out with his hands up, but after a moment, turned around and went back inside. The scene became tense when the subject then turned around and went back in the home, he then came back out and officers thought he might have a weapon.
Thankfully, the incident ended peacefully and Rodriquez was taken into custody at 2:11am Saturday morning. He remains in the Hockley County Jail on 7 counts of Deadly Conduct for discharging a firearm. He is being held on a $140,000 bond. A .380 hand gun was confiscated by officers.
