Proposed Rules for City Council Meetings NOT Discussed by Council

In a regular meeting held by the Levelland City Council Monday night, an item was on the agenda that read “Consider and take necessary action regarding Rules of Procedure for City Council Meetings.”

Once the item was introduced, Mayor Waymon Jackson asked “what was wrong with the way council meetings are conducted now?” He then said “We are skipping this item.” Councilmember Joe Bill Vardeman made a motion that the item be tabled–the Mayor refused to act on the motion and further stated “we are not tabling this item–as long as I am Mayor we will not look at this item and will NOT vote on it.” “We can run council meetings any way I choose.” The Mayor stated the city charter states the Mayor controls the meeting. He then skipped the item without any action and went on to the next item.Proposed Rules for Council Meetings
