The Levelland Economic Development Corporation met Wednesday afternoon in a regular meeting.
1) The board heard an update on the monthly financial reports from Director, Shawn Kirkpatrick. Following the presentation they approved the monthly reports with little discussion. It was noted as part of the presentation that sales tax collections for the city were down 9.1% this month. It was noted that the gross sales tax collection was actually up, however there was an adjustment made by the State Comptrollers office. No further information was available at this time on the adjustment.
2) The board also heard an update on the screening fence to built to separate rail park from private property residences on Cactus Drive. The board authorized the director and attorney to continue negotiation and once a recommended contract is complete, then bring the contract back to the full board for final approval.
3) The board also took action to recommend 2 individuals to fill expiring terms on the EDC Board. Both Wanda Lawless and Greg Kelley will be coming off of the EDC board this month. The board learned that a nominating committee had met in the past few weeks and following recommendations and interviews, the board recommends Mel Gierhart and Jody Rose to serve a 3 year term. Levelland City Council will have to approve the recommendations in their July 8 meeting.
4) The board also heard directors monthly activity report prior to adjournment. They will meet again in regular meeting on July 24.
