KLVT news was on the scene this morning at the Stripes Convenience Store in Levelland at the intersection of College Ave. and Clubview drive.
Sgt. Craig Hancock with the Levelland Police Department told KLVT news that the report came in of a suspicious package found near the gas pumps of the store. A customer reportedly found it and took it inside the store, a clerk reportedly then notified the Levelland Police Department. Officers from the Levelland PD, Hockley County Sheriff’s office, Texas Department of Transportation, Levelland Fire Department and Levelland EMS all responded to the scene. The decision was made after further investigation to block off College Ave. and Clubview to all traffic and to call out the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.
The bomb squad arrived on the scene at just before 8:30am and took possession of the package. At just after 9am the bomb squad reported that it was oilfield equipment. He also said that it is registered equipment and will be turned over to Federal Authorities with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau for further investigation and to determine who it was registered to. The store was allowed to re-open and traffic was allowed back in the area by 9:15 this morning.
