The Levelland City Council met last night in a regular meeting.
The full report from that meeting is below…….
The council declared the results of the 2013 General Election as official.
New Council members Joe Bill Vardeman and Max Ledesma were sworn in and took their seat on the council.
Past council members Cody Poage and Mike Jackson were recognized for their years of service.
The council also approved the Quarterly Investment Report
The council authorized the submission a grant application through the US Department of Justice. The purpose of the program is to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. The Levelland PD has applied for the CHP each year since 2009 but has not been successful to date. The city is applying for the grant to help fund hiring an additional School Resource Officer in addition to the 2 additional officers recently approved. The 4 year grant amount would be $231,886.00 with the grant being $125,000 and the city to pay $26,721.50 and the school to pay 80,164.50. The school would pay 75% share and city would pay 25% which is the current agreement on school resource officers. The amounts are a total over the 4 year period. It was noted that the deadline to submit the grant is June 4 and that this year they are scoring the applications higher if it is being used for school resource officers.
The council also approved a new street light to be installed in the middle of the block of N. Elgin just north of Cactus Drive.
