The Levelland Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday. A full report of that meeting is below……..
The board heard a presentation from Steve Newsom, President of the High Plains Wine Growers. He spoke about the upcoming Wine and Music Festival on June 14 and 15 at the Mallet Event Center and Arena. It was noted that the wine industry is a growing opportunity for area farmers. The LEDC is committed toward attracting manufacturers, suppliers and service providers.
The board also heard a request from Brady Brashear to construct a screening fence east of the Chi Energy Road on top of the berm. The board agreed to consider the request and appointed board members Wanda Lawless, Greg Kelley and Director Shawn Kirkpatrick to a committee to evaluate the possibility.
The board also heard a presentation from Leading EDG on a program they currently offer to help entrepreneurs and small businesses in Levelland. The EDC board in the next budget cycle will consider the program, no decision was made Wednesday.
The board also appointed board members Elgin Conner, Sham Myatt, Councilman, Larry Davidson and EDC Director Shawn Kirkpatrick to consider nominations to the LEDC Board. There will be 2 vacancies in June 2013 when the terms of Wanda Lawless and Greg Kelley both end.
The board met in executive session. Following the executive session the board completed the performance review for Director Shawn Kirkpatrick. Board Chairman Chris Roberts commented “Shawn is exceeding expectations and feels the LEDC is headed in an excellent direction.
They also appointed members Elgin Conner and Sham Myatt to work with Director Shawn Kirkpatrick on a pending project.
