Wildfire near Smyer forces closure of Highway 114

A large wildfire is burning near Smyer.  The fire is reportedly 1 mile east of the Hockley County line.  Wolfforth, Carlisle and Shallowater fire department have all responded.  The fire reportedly is jumping fire breaks and has forced the closure of Texas Highway 114 from Smyer to the Hockley County Line. 

We have learned that atleast 2 structures are involved.  Sheriff’s deputies from Hockley and Lubbock County are both on the scene assisting.
