South Plains College Board of Regents met today and approved bids for the new cosmetology space in Levelland, located in the Gentry Square Property.
The construction manager for the college, Jim McCutchin, with McCutchin Construction of Levelland was present and presented the bids to the board for their review and approval.
The total project come in at a cost of $2,278,407 not including the roof. The roof was bid separate and it came in at a total cost of $499,500. The roofing bid was awarded to Tecta-America which did the replacement roof on the Texan Dome, new roof on the Allied Health building and the new roof on Nathan Tubb Hall. It was noted that an estimated $498,000 of the bid was awarded to local contractors.
Some of the largest categories on the project includes the plumbing which was awarded to Armstrong Mechanical, which has done a large amount of the work on the SPC campus. There bid totalled $667,365.00. The local contractor, 1st Class Plumbing of Levelland submitted a bid of $968,000. The electrical work for the project was awarded to D&K Hunt Electric of Wolforth. There bid was $521,195.00. Other bids were received from Independent Electric of Levelland for $646,185 and K-Bar Texas Electric of Levelland for $668,000. The local bids being approved for the project include Frank Castro for Masonry work with a bid totaling $17,108; ZM Interior for Drywall work with a total bid of $398,700–there was no other bid submitted for Drywall work; Brock’s Carpet of Levelland will do the flooring in the building with a total bid of $79,300.
Mr. McCutchin also pointed out to the Board of Regents that the replacement cost on the property at Gentry Square after the work is completed on the Cosmetology building will be an estimated 14 Million dollars.
Regents will hold their regular monthly meeting for March on March 21.
