Hockley County should be proud of Mallet Event Center

I was privileged to be a part of a group of business leaders and community members invited to tour the newly completed Mallet Event Center and Arena in Levelland yesterday.

In a tour of the facility you will learn the arena will seat 1,933 people and the center has a warm up arena which will seat over 300 people. The facility also has a banquet hall which can be divided into 3 sections for a total seating of over 600 people. As part of the banquet area the facility also offers a patio area with 2 gas fire pits for guest use. It was noted that the fire pits cannot be lit if the wind is blowing and it is deemed a fire hazard. The facility held its first stock show last week with the Whitharral Stock Show followed by the Hockley County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. Judging from comments from the many spectators of both events the facility is definately a winner for this community. For stock shows the Mallet has indoor wash racks as well as the outdoor wash racks which features temperature controlled water for washing the animals which was a definite hit for the many participants of both stock shows.

Levelland Economic Development and the Levelland Chamber of Commerce and Main Street program hosted the tour and both feel that the Mallet offers a great opportunity for Hockley County. The Mallet currently has 62 events booked in 2012 with an estimated 34,000 people to come through the event center in 2012. If you have an event to book in 2012 definately call early as they are filling up fast for this year. It was noted that they are already booking events for 2013 and 2014.

Community members will have a chance to see the Mallet Event Center and Arena on March 29 when the county will host the big reveal and grand opening for the Mallet Event Center and Arena!!
